MUSICAL GOLD,
past, present, future
MOTHERWELL THEATRE, 23-26 MAY, 2012
This revue was our first in the (thankfully) reopened
Motherwell Theatre and our chance to re-establish
our presence having had no production in 2011. The
celebration of our Golden Jubilee had been put
together rather hastily, since our plans for presenting
“Show Boat” had been thrown into chaos and failure
and our intentions for the 50th Anniversary were
brought forward. Given that we had presented 73
shows previously, we could not represent every
one’s preferences for representative music and some were
disappointed. With that - and a difficult rehearsal regime, it was
with some anxiety that we gave five performances of the show.
It turned out that we worried too much. One member of the
audience (with no connection to the Society) described it as “a
brilliant, life-enhancing show” and while not everyone was quite
as enthused, we could reflect on a very full and satisfying
programme, with solos, duets, ensembles and full chorus
numbers, from G&S to “Glee”.
